Mark Roberts

Born and raised in Los Angeles with an adventurous entrepreneurial spirit, Mark Roberts is making his dreams come true. Over the past 18 years he has been involved in all aspects of the entertainment industry, from musical theater, to casting, to award-winning film and television production. But it was the deal-making behind his partnership with music giant Rhino Records that made him realize the art of producing was his first love. In 1996 Rhino, Roberts and his producing partner Lorena David produced the much-talked-about PLUMP FICTION, an imaginative spoof on independent film with an extraordinary ensemble cast including Julie Brown, Sandra Bernhard, Tommy Davidson and Dan Castellaneta.

Roberts then teamed up with producer/actor Carlos Gallardo (El Mariachi, Desperado, Bandido, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) to produce two action films, SINGLE ACTION and BRAVO. Roberts' desire to support emerging directors was instrumental for Gallardo, and producing partner David, as they stepped up to direct SINGLE ACTION and BRAVO, respectively. Roberts also produced the critically-acclaimed indie EASTSIDE starring Mario Lopez which Kevin Thomas of the LA Times called "a winner."

Mark and David also produced the twisted comedy POOR WHITE TRASH that starred Sean Young in a standout role opposite hot newcomers Jaime Pressley (Not Another Teen Movie) and Jason London (Dazed and Confused). That same year the Roberts/David team produced the award winning short, "La Femme Ballon," which one several prestigious festivals and made its national debut on Showtime in the Latino Film Festival.

Next, with David directing, Roberts produced the action drama OUTTA TIME (aka The Courier) set on the Mexican/American border. Lopez again took the lead role, surrounded by a mix of veterans, John Saxon (Enter the Dragon, The Unforgiven) and Dyana Ortelli (La Bamba, The Three Amigos) and breakout newcomers Ali Landry (Beautiful), Nancy O'Dell (The Bachelor, "Access Hollywood") and Carlos Mencia (HBO's "Funny is Funny").

Roberts and David also worked together on EXTREME DATING, a romantic comedy about twenty-somethings convinced the only way to cement true love is to be put in extreme circumstances. Cast by renowned casting director Joseph Middleton of American Pie and Legally Blonde fame, the movie stars Amanda Detmer (The Majestic, Final Destination), Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Idle Hands), Meatloaf and Jamie-Lynn Sigler (HBO's "The Sopranos").

Mark Roberts just produced the big-screen adaptation of Comedy Central's cult hit STRANGERS WITH CANDY, which had its world premiere at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. The cable series’ original stars and creators Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert wrote and star in the comedy.
